Cable that can save lives

Another tragic fire related incident brings home how dangerous fires can really be. More people die in fires from smoke inhalation than any other cause. Reducing smoke in general and toxic smoke in particular can save lives.

 

When common cable and wire burn their insulating materials can give off toxic smoke, toxic gases and toxic acids. In common cabling materials, halogens are stable under most conditions but they present serious health hazards when burned. When burned, a halogen containing plastic can release hydrogen chloride, hydrogen fluoride and other dangerous gases. In contact with water hydrogen chloride forms dangerous hydrochloric acid. These gases are also highly corrosive to metal.

 

Without compromising on mechanical and electrical performance a low smoke zero halogen cable lowers the amount of smoke emitted making it easier for visibility in exiting the area and reduces the danger of smoke inhalation. Eliminating halogens reduces the toxicity and so no harm to people from the halogenated gases.
